When we started Bullwinkle Tallow, we made a commitment: only the best ingredients would go into our products. That meant one thing was non-negotiable — grass-fed tallow. Here's why we made that choice, and why we think it matters for you.
Not All Tallow Is Created Equal
Tallow is rendered beef fat, but the quality of that fat depends entirely on how the animal was raised. Conventionally raised cattle are often fed grain-heavy diets, kept in confined spaces, and given hormones or antibiotics. The fat from these animals reflects that — it's nutritionally inferior and may carry residues you don't want on your skin.
Grass-fed cattle, on the other hand, roam open pastures and eat the diet nature intended. The result is tallow that is richer in nutrients, higher in beneficial fatty acids, and simply better for your skin.
The Nutritional Difference
Grass-fed tallow contains significantly higher levels of:
- Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) — shown to have anti-inflammatory and skin-protective properties
- Omega-3 fatty acids — essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier
- Vitamins A, D, E & K — fat-soluble vitamins that support skin repair, renewal, and protection
- Antioxidants — helping to fight free radical damage and slow visible aging
Grain-fed tallow simply doesn't measure up on any of these counts.
It's About More Than Skincare
Choosing grass-fed also means supporting more humane and sustainable farming practices. Grass-fed cattle are raised in better conditions, and pasture-based farming is generally better for the land. When you buy Bullwinkle Tallow, you're not just investing in your skin — you're supporting a way of raising animals that we can all feel good about.
Our Promise to You
We source our tallow carefully and are committed to transparency about what goes into every jar. No shortcuts. No compromises. Just clean, nutrient-rich, grass-fed tallow — the way it was always meant to be.
